President's Message
President: Gerald Walsh
In the 30 years that the Dutch Kills Civic Association has been in existence, the organization has done many positive things to make a better Dutch Kills community. With the work of all the past leaders of the Dutch Kills Civic Association, the community, the businesses, and New York City's agencies and elected officials, we have created green space, changed the zoning back to make residential/mixed use possible, and have reported crime when needed. Our community has become quite a vibrant area. We are only one or two stops to Manhattan via the subway. There are no less than seven ways to reach any of the other three boroughs via public transportation as well.
We have many schools, house of worships and fantastic restaurants within the Dutch Kills area. Our 36th Avenue merchants' row is only growing and getting better. We have even become a tourist attraction with eight hotels being built during our zoning change. Many people from all over the United States and the world now know our community. They lodge here and use our retail businesses. The hotels in Dutch kills have served to enrich our retail communities from Dutch kills to Astoria.
We can foresee the future of our community growing larger in population, adding even more retail stores and flourishing as a residential community. I must thank all of you for your continuous support as without the people who have lived here day in and day out, none of the above could be said.
